New Family of Scalance XB Gigabit switches reduce downtime and TCO.

Siemens Industry has expanded it’s family of Ethernet switches with the Scalance XB Gigabit line of unmanaged switches, which, according to Raj Rajani, Siemens ethernet infrastructure marketing manager are “ideal for entry level applications.”

“The big thing about the Scalance XB Gigabit switch is how easy it is to install and replace,” adds Rajani. “Like the rest of the X product family, when we were designing this switch we set out to make a product that would be easy to use and have an impact on the customer’s business. Once you deliver all the key features customers asked for and hit your reliability goals you need to think about what else the customer wants and innovate accordingly. We set out to reduce total cost of ownership and increase machine uptime, which in turn increases the plant’s effective capacity and profitability.”

Available with up to eight 10/100/1000 Mbit/s ports, the switches feature a compact, space-saving design with a sturdy plastic housing for mounting on standard mounting rails and are ideally suited for line or star topologies where simple plug-and-play connections and low-cost port expansion features are important.

The Scalance X family of Ethernet switches from Siemens:

  • Scalance X200 Compact Managed Switch – offers SNMP diagnostics, operates without an enclosure and can be mounted externally on a machine. Troubleshooting time is reduced with fast ring redundancy and a free web-based tool to diagnose cable breaks and lost communications.
  • Scalance X300 Compact Managed gigabit switch – helps migrate Fast Ethernet to Gigabit standards, providing the ability to integrate plant floor networks with enterprise networks via high speed backbone. The SCALANCE X300 switch offers three gigabit ports and delivers the superior management features of VLAN and IGMP snooping and query.
  • Scalance X400 Multi-port Gigabit Managed Switch – delivers the attractive office features of VLAN, spanning tree and web- based management, Layer 3 switching (IP routing), SNMP diagnostics and IGMP snooping. The switch is easily integrated into enterprise and plant networks and is scalable up to 26 ports per switch. A redundant ring manager function enables extremely high speed Ethernet and gigabit rings with fast redundancy (less than 0.3 seconds).
