System keys can be programmed for common tasks.
Key operation is being added to a number of Panel PCs and Industrial LCD monitors from Siemens Industry Automation Division. The programmable keys simplify operator’s jobs by letting them perform repetitive tasks with fewer keystrokes.
The Panel PC lines, the Simatic HMI IPC477C and HMI IPC577C, now include 12- and 15-inch devices with keys. The Simatic Industrial LCD monitor line is being expanded with two compact 12- and 15-inch pure display units that have touch functionality by monitors with key operation.
On both lines, the function and system keys on the front of the units have programmable keys that can be configured for frequently recurring input sequences or functions, saving operators time and reducing the occurrence of operator input errors. All the new units come equipped with a robust display with IP65 front rating and offer bright displays.
The PCs and monitors are also designed to ensure that operators with gloves or those who aren’t focusing on input can be sure they’ve activated the keys. Tactile feedback provides one response mechanism, while an integrated LED also lights up to confirm key operation for users. The systems also let operators manage data with an integrated mouse.
The Panel PCs are also available with installed automation software for operation, monitoring and control functions. Fail-safe operation or process visualization can be offered as a WinCC standalone/client. For industrial applications that require a high degree of ruggedness, both models are available with 32 Gigabyte Solid State Drive (SSD) or Compact flash card instead of a hard drive. Both the Simatic HMI IPC477C and HMI IPC577C Panel PCs can be upgraded to meet user requirements. For example, they can be equipped with powerful Intel Core 2 Duo processors.
The Simatic Industrial LCD monitors can be used as an option for any Simatic Industrial PC. They can operate them at a distance of up to 30 meters, for example, serving as a second display unit for a Panel PC. Their high-resolution display has almost no reflection, and it offers a large horizontal and vertical reading angle of 170 degrees.
