The latest Simatic HMI operator panels offer high performance and integrated functionality for demanding visualization tasks. The new Simatic HMI Comfort Panels are designed with high resolution displays allowing maximum area for full-color graphic objects. The 16:9 widescreen display provides up to 40 percent larger screen area than traditional 4:3 screens and are enclosed in a compact bezel for easy installation.

Initial models are available in 4-inch, 7-inch, 9-inch, and 12-inch diagonal screen sizes, in touch screen or tactical keypad designs with 15-inch to 22-inch sizes planned for later release. All 7-inch and larger models include cast aluminum bezels with hazardous location approvals for installation in harsh environments. All Simatic Comfort Panels include energy efficient LED backlights and are dimmable up to 100 percent. This lets users adjust the brightness for applications readable in sunlight or darkness conditions. All Simatic Comfort Panels have built-in Ethernet and serial communication interfaces for Profinet and Profibus networks along with several 3rd party Ethernet and serial driver. Displays can be remotely turned off during short breaks to save energy via the network. All panels are configured using the new WinCC V11 engineering software as part of the Totally Integrated Automation Portal software framework. Software projects can be loaded over Profinet, Profibus or via standard USB cables.

All panels support system and process diagnostics from any connected Simatic S7 controller. Diagnostic information no longer requires a separate programming logic, it can now be easily enabled for automatic display on HMI alarm screens without configuration.

The Simatic Comfort Panels offer full data and program security, even during a power failure, through the use of its two SD cards without an additional uninterruptible power supply required. This safeguards data within the internal memory, and protects data archives and recipes against loss during power failure.

On versions with tactile key input, the operating panel layout corresponds to a cell phone with numeric and text capability, enabling quick, intuitive data input. All function keys have LED illumination. Visual signals on the keys to be operated provide guidance for the operator. The tactile feedback on operation of the keys offers additional assurance. The touch screen versions can be installed in vertical portrait format, enabling them to be used for applications where installation space is limited.
