Siemens Industry Automation Division’s Simatic S7-1200 controllers portfolio is being extended with the Simatic S7-1215C, which has as much as four times the capacity of existing modules. The high-end CPU also adds a second Profinet interface, two analog outputs and fast outputs for controlling up to four stepper motors.
The latest addition to the line now holds up to 100 kilobytes of working memory, with 10 kBytes retentive memory. Processing speed has also been increased. For example, the Boolean execution time is 0.085 microseconds per operation.
The increased memory and execution speeds open the door to larger, more complex automation tasks that were once handled only by higher priced, more complex CPUs. The Simatic S7-1215C CPU further extends performance in the micro/compact CPU category by offering users 14 digital inputs, 10 digital outputs, two analog inputs and two analog outputs.
Like its predecessors, it is available in three versions: DC/DC/DC, AC/DC/relay and DC/DC/relay. The controllers can be used for open-loop and closed-loop control tasks in mechanical and plant engineering. Potential application ranges from replacement of relays and contactors, conveying systems, pump control and energy management through to distributed tasks in a more complex automation network.
