The M200D AS-Interface Basic distributed motor starter line offers both small size and a high level of protection for spatially distributed motor applications. Designed for material handling and conveying applications, it also offers remote starts and protection for motors up to 12A (5.5 kilowatts) using AS-Interface.
The motor starter made by Siemens Industry Automation Division is small enough to be installed outside the control cabinet and close to the motor. IP65 protection makes the motor starter well suited for material handling and conveying applications where distributed motor applications are the norm. The M200D AS-Interface Basic unit can function as a direct or reversing starter for motors, starting them electronically or mechanically. Two current ranges of 0.15A-2A and 1.5A-12A add flexibility.
Among its many protection features are an electronic overload relay and circuit breaker that protect the motor against overload and short-circuit. The unit also offers optional full motor protection through the evaluation of signals from temperature sensors mounted on the motor. A repair switch lets users open the circuit breaker and interrupt the current in order to repair the motor. Diagnostic data such as the equipment status, asymmetry or overload are passed on to higher-level systems via the AS-Interface.
It’s easy to connect the motor starter’s power cables or the AS-Interface link using M12 plug-in connectors. This simplifies wiring during commissioning and speeds replacement to minimize downtime. The interfaces of the M200D AS-Interface Basic are harmonized with the ET 200 pro distributed I/O system so it can be linked up to ET 200pro motor starters and frequency converters.
Four DIP switches make it easy to parameterize the devices locally, making it easy to specify critical motor starter functions like the activation of the connector-monitoring function or the evaluation function for temperature-sensor signals. An optional integrated operator local control panel with jog switch and maintained-contact switches makes it easy to activate/deactivate the Quick Stop function or change the operating mode to either local or remote modes. Integrated brake controllers with voltages of 230 V/400 V AC or 180 V DC are also available.
