Siemens recently released its SIMATIC PN/J1939 LINK—enabling seamless data exchange between PROFINET and SAE J1939 (CAN) networks.
It supports up to 253 logical nodes, 30 addressable engine control units (ECUs) and several J1939 functions, including Broadcast Announce Message (BAM), Connection Mode Data Transfer (CMDT) and PDU 1 and 2.
The LINK is housed in a compact, 70-mm enclosure and can be mounted on a standard mounting rail or in a control panel. Thanks to its internal PROFINET switch, the LINK enables seamless integration into the PROFINET network. It connects to PROFINET PN IO networks via RJ45 connectors, as well as to SAE J1939 via a sub D connector.
The LINK operates without any fans or batteries and includes an external 24-V DC power supply. Its body also integrates LEDs, which indicate the operating status of PROFINET, J1939 and Ethernet ports.
Notable features include:
- J1939 functions—BAM, CMDT, PDU 1 and 2
- Up to 253 logical nodes
- Up to 30 addressable ECUs
- Electrical isolation between both networks
- Diagnostic interrupts
- Engineering and diagnostic options through TIA integration
- Supported controllers—S7-1200, S7-1500, ET 200SP and Open Controller
