Laptops and notebooks used in the field can be in for some rough treatment within some harsh environments. Technicians typically must service equipment at various hazardous locations. It’s no wonder their devices suffer a variety of dings, scrapes and drops, risking their reliability in the field, unless they are designed for these conditions. That’s why Siemens released the new SIMATIC Field PG M6 with a rugged enclosure made of sturdy magnesium alloy with rubber-protected corners and a retractable handle, as well as hardware optimized for industrial applications.
Designed for high-performance programming, it is the optimal tool for automation engineering. It features pre-installed SIMATIC engineering software, for configuration and programming SIMATIC PLCS, HMIs, including Safety, and Drives an 8th generation Intel® Core™ i5/i7 processor, up to 32 GB of memory, up to 2 TB in solid state drives, 4 USB ports and all conventional interfaces for industrial applications.
As the latest generation of devices in a semi-ruggedized notebook design, the Field PG M6 is equipped with a 15.6″ full HD display (1.920 x 1.080) and supports Bluetooth V5.0 as well as the latest WLAN standard 802.11ac. Integrated industrial and SIMATIC interfaces eliminate the need for additional adapters for automation tasks. This includes 2x Gigabit Ethernet for PROFINET connections, 1x PROFIBUS DP/MPI and 1x COM/RS232.
The SIMATIC Field PG M6 is ideally suited for engineering, commissioning, service or maintenance of automation systems in the field or in the office. When the technician returns to the office, external monitors can be easily connected for convenient engineering work via 1x Display Port and 1x DVI-I (VGA connection is also possible with an adapter). In addition, the SIMATIC Field PG M6 comes with a DVD-RW drive.
Security is provided using Microsoft BitlLocker functionality supported by the integrated Trusted Platform Module – TPM 2.0. This offers access and operating system protection as well as secure data encryption. An integrated Smartcard Reader enables encrypted email, NS integrated Intel® Active Management Technology (Iamt) gives IT remote access and control of the Field PG via Ethernet for tasks such as restores, upgrades, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
The SIMATIC Field PG M6 is available in two versions: The SIMATIC Field PG M6 Comfort is equipped with an Intel Core i5-8400H (2.5 to 4.2 GHz; 4 cores + Hyper-Threading; 8 MB Smart Cache). The SIMATIC Field PG M6 Advanced is equipped with an Intel Core i7-8850H (2.6 to 4.3 GHz; 6 cores + Hyper-Threading; 9 MB Smart Cache).
